As a general rule, these little birds spend the winter in my area, but their plumage is so drab that they don't attract much attention. However, as soon as spring approaches, the males get rid of all that drab plumage and become a bright, golden yellow for the breeding season. By that time, they are usually long gone and headed north to mate and reproduce. This year, for whatever reason, they are hanging around. There were no less than a dozen of these brightly colored birds in my yard today, and I couldn't resist shooting a few images of them. Enjoy...
Thanks! I wish they would stay here all summer, but, unfortunately, they don't. For some reason, they stayed in my area longer than usual this spring. By the end of March, they are usually long gone, and we never see them in their breeding plumage. I guess they decided to give us a treat this year.
